Darling Downs Presbyterian Churches
Gospel Partnership in the Presbyterian Churches of the Darling DownsOur Churches
There are local Presbyterian churches right across the Downs. This group is called a ‘Presbytery’. Click here to see all the towns you can find a church home with us.
Our Fund
We’re committed to supporting each other financially and have established a fund called the Darling Downs Revitalisation Fund.
Our Vision
Every few years we work together as a representative group (Presbytery) to decide what to focus on with our resources.
our Vision
Darling Downs Presbytery exists to provide courageous oversight and sacrificial support
to develop healthy leadership so that our churches are growing and confronting the
Darling Downs with the gospel.
In 2023 our churches through the Presbytery formed a vision to focus combined resources for the next several years. Among others things, this led to a re-commitment to our Presbytery Revitalisation Fund, the identification of priority churches to support, and setting up four vision pathways for team to work on between now and 2027.
Our values
These are the things that guide our behaviour:
1. Gospel
We trust in the Gospel to powerfully work in our churches and communities.
2. Prayer
We value ministries that are infused with and reliant on prayer.
3. Proactive pastoral work
We value being proactive in supporting congregations and developing healthy church leadership so that our people mature and confront the Darling Downs with the gospel.
4. Elders
We value equipping and training elders to be proactive in ministry.
5. Leadership health
We value sustainable, long term ministry effort under God’s strength.
6. Relationships
We value relationships in presbytery to be gospel shaped; robust, honest, supportive
and loving rather than adversarial.
7. Cooperative ministry
We value leaders and churches working together in genuine partnership to support and strengthen each other for the sake of the churches.
8. Growth
We value churches growing both spiritually and numerically.
9. Creatively sustaining ministries
We value coming up with creative ways to minister to small regional areas that
promotes spiritual growth without reducing the effectiveness of other ministries.
10. Church planting
We value new works in considered places so that more people are confronted with the gospel.
Vision Pathways
Out of our vision these are the four top actions that we identified to focus on as a presbytery.
● Develop and implement strategies to address our declining churches.
● Reallocate resources to promote church growth and church planting.
● Identify, equip and mobilise elders to lead.
● Raise and train gospel workers.
Revitalisation Fund
Our Presbytery Revitalisation Fund is aimed at supporting priority churches who are are undergoing renewal in their gospel work and giving smaller special grants to other churches. Right now Chinchilla and Stanthorpe are receiving support ongoingly. Large one of grants from chuches to other churches have gone to Rose City and Chinchilla Presbyterian. This fund is made possible by the generosity and partnership of local Presbyterian churches.
